Job Purpose
Meticulously analyse, update, and maintain manufacturer aircraft systems manuals and documentation within Flight Operations, ensuring alignment with regulatory standards and operational procedures, in order to optimise safety, compliance, and efficiency across all flight and ground operations.
Main Accountabilities
- Ensure all aircraft-related manuals, including flight crew, cabin crew, configuration, and systems manuals, are up-to-date, accurate, and compliant with the latest manufacturer revisions and regulatory requirements, thereby supporting safe and efficient operations.
- Identify and document differences in aircraft equipment and systems, particularly for second-hand aircraft from different operators, to determine necessary operational adjustments, safety measures, and training requirements for flight and cabin crews.
- Evaluate proposed maintenance modifications or retrofits, understand their operational impact across different departments, and ensure these changes are integrated seamlessly into operational practices.
- Establish operational guidelines and restrictions for aircraft with outdated systems affected by Earth's magnetic variation, ensuring compliance with operational safety standards and avoiding routing aircraft to unsuitable regions.
- Assist in customising the MEL according to the Master MEL and incorporate modifications from maintenance and other departments, ensuring operational compliance and minimising downtime due to equipment limitations.
- Determine any procedural changes or additional training requirements needed for flight crews based on differences in new aircraft systems, thereby maintaining high safety and operational standards.
- Ensure all QRH checklists, which are crucial for standard flight operations, reflect the latest agreed-upon procedures and system updates, thereby maintaining consistency in flight operations and safety protocols.
- Maintain accurate and timely publication of all operational manuals via the Flight Operations Document Management (FODM) system, ensuring all documents are readily available and correctly formatted for operational use.
- Ensure that all manual updates are correctly formatted, published, and distributed in a timely manner, avoiding operational disruptions due to outdated or missing documentation.
- Proactively request and manage the necessary documents from the Transitions department for the preparation and submission of updated MELs and other required documents to regulatory authorities.
- Contribute technical expertise in discussions with departments such as Weight and Balance, Performance, and Maintenance, ensuring all operational changes are fully understood and appropriately documented.
Main Relationships
- Weight and Balance Department: To collaborate on the impact of manual updates on aircraft weight distribution and balance, ensuring safety and operational efficiency.
- Performance Department: To provide updated performance data and analysis required for aircraft operational planning, particularly when integrating new aircraft into the fleet or modifying existing ones.
- Pilot Standards Department (Flight Crew and Cabin Crew Standards): To coordinate procedural updates and training requirements stemming from manual revisions and new aircraft systems, ensuring flight and cabin crew are prepared and informed.
- Maintenance Department: To understand and integrate the operational impact of maintenance modifications or retrofits into the aircraft manuals and ensure compliance with safety and operational protocols.
- Transitions Department: To gather necessary documentation for the induction of new aircraft into the fleet, including equipment specifications and system updates, for regulatory compliance and operational readiness.
- Airbus (Manufacturer): To liaise directly with Airbus for resolving any discrepancies in the Flight Operations Document Management system and to ensure timely and accurate manual updates and distributions.
- Systems Department: To coordinate with the systems team on updates that affect aircraft systems, ensuring technical accuracy and operational safety.
- Regulatory Authorities: While direct communication is minimal, the role involves ensuring that all documentation complies with regulatory requirements, often requiring coordination with those who liaise directly with authorities.
Education
Bachelor's Degree in Aeronautical Engineering or a related field is essential. This
level of education provides a foundational understanding of aircraft systems, operational principles, and regulatory compliance, all of which are crucial for analysing and updating technical manuals. The curriculum typically includes exposure to aerodynamics, aircraft structures, avionics, and propulsion systems, which is directly applicable to the technical tasks performed in this role.
Experience
- Comprehensive knowledge of Airbus aircraft systems and the various manuals (e.g., Flight Crew Operating Manual, Aircraft Maintenance Manual, Quick Reference Handbook) is required. This includes understanding the content, structure, and purpose of each manual, and how changes in one document might impact others or the overall operation of the fleet.
- Familiarity with aviation regulations and standards (e.g., EASA, FAA) that govern aircraft operations and maintenance procedures. This knowledge ensures that all manual updates and operational procedures comply with the relevant legal and safety requirements.
- Proficiency in using documentation management systems such as Flight Operations Document Management (FODM). This involves understanding how to navigate these systems to update, publish, and distribute technical documents accurately and efficiently.
- Knowledge of how aircraft performance data is utilised in operational planning, particularly in terms of weight and balance, flight performance data, and the impact of magnetic variation (MagVar) on navigation and operational limitations.
- No Prior Experience Required, as this position is designed as an entry-level role suitable for recent graduates. However, any relevant experience in aviation operations or data analysis is considered beneficial.
